This post is part of a project documentation series starting with the post: What is Capstone? That post will give you a lot of context on this project and the series. Through these posts I will be documenting the process of my Senior Year Capstone course.

I am now in week 3 and have made decent progress so far! It has been a full three weeks of brainstorming and learning. Keep reading to follow my journey as it continues to unfold:

One thing that I have learned going through this process is the importance of brainstorming until you can’t any more. It may get repetitive, my brain may start to shut down a little bit, but through this I got to one of my strongest ideas after hours of brainstorming.

RESEARCH: It can be one of the most fun parts or one of the most frustrating, confusing, and elaborate parts of the design process. However, research is absolutely necessary for quality ideas. As a class, we are reading through “Made to Stick” by Chip Heath & Dan Heath. Chapter 4 of this focuses on credibility and how ideas can gain credibility from things like outside sources, testable credentials, authorities, inside sources, meaningful details, and antiauthorities. Credibility in ideas makes them stick out and also makes the idea a lot more compelling.

Another thing I have learned through this process is how much looking at competitors can really help you start to visualize the idea and work through questions. For example, I got to see how other companies do some things well, see things that prompted new ideas for my brand, and how my idea could be unique when compared to others.

As we continue, I am feeling really excited about my ideas and how far they have come along! I do think I will continue to do more research and plan out the idea further when it comes to the “why” behind everything. In the next few weeks, I want to solidify all of the details of the ideas so that everything can keep moving smoothly.

I hope you will continue to follow along with me!
